Roche has launched software version 3.0.0 for the cobas b 101 and this update is mandatory for all users.
Roche Cobas b 101 Blood Analyser
The Roche cobas b 101 is a one-stop in vitro diagnostics (IVD), point of care (PoC) device for the quantitative evaluation of clinical chemistry assays and immunoassays using the cobas b 101 test discs to measure HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin), lipids and CRP.
Why is this update important?
From 2025, Roche will begin phasing in new cobas® click Gen. 2 discs. These next-generation discs bring improved performance and will also be used in the new cobas® click instrument. Until the current discs are phased out they can still be used in the cobas® b 101 after updating to SW version 3.0.0.
Without the software upgrade, the cobas b 101 will not be able to process these new discs. Instruments running on version 2.0.5 or earlier will display an error message if a Gen. 2 disc is inserted.
In short: if you want to continue using your cobas® b 101 beyond 2025, you’ll need to install software version 3.0.0.
What’s new in version 3.0.0?
The update isn’t just about compatibility. It also introduces useful improvements to enhance your workflow:
- Support for cobas® click discs
- Implementation of the new quality control (QC) concept
- Compatibility with additional printers and external barcode scanners
- General bug fixes and stability improvements
How do you update your system?
Updating your cobas® b 101 is simple and takes around 5 minutes per instrument. Roche will provide a pre-loaded USB stick containing the update files.
To request your USB stick, you’ll need to contact Roche Customer Services directly with the following details:
- Contact name
- Account number & name
- Serial numbers of all cobas® b 101 instruments
- Number of USB sticks required
- Delivery address
