The Technical University of the Shannon (TUS) has recently opened a state-of-the-art sport science and medical building at its Athlone campus. Back in 2023, the university reached out to HaB Direct to explore options for upgrading their treadmills. At the time, they were particularly interested in the h/p/cosmos Pulsar, having already worked with one in their labs.
Thanks to our strong working relationship with Shane Carrington, TUS’s lead technician, we were invited to complete a site survey as construction neared completion. During our March 2025 visit, we assessed the space and requirements for their new facilities.
The Solution
After careful discussion with the team and a review of the new lab’s layout, we recommended the h/p/cosmos Mercury Med treadmill. It features a reverse belt rotation, which can help build endurance in supporting muscles, enhance agility, and improve overall athletic performance. This model is suitable for use in universities, providing advanced functionality required for both teaching and research in sport science.
The Mercury Med’s smaller footprint meant the university could also install two Monark 894E ergometer bikes, giving their students a wider range of testing and training equipment. Importantly, the new lab has also been designed with space for a future treadmill. Thus, ensuring the department can continue to grow and adapt its teaching resources.

The installation went smoothly, with the new treadmill and ergometer bikes now proudly in place. The equipment perfectly complements the new laboratory, providing students and athletes with cutting-edge tools from day one of term.
