Introducing the RobotGym UniGym: One Adaptable System for Full-Body Rehabilitation Training

HaB Direct is pleased to introduce the RobotGym UniGym Full Edition, a compact and adaptable system that brings hand, upper-limb and lower-limb rehabilitation training together in one device.

Rehabilitation settings often rely on several pieces of equipment to support different areas of the body. This can require considerable space and make it more difficult to provide continuity between clinic, community and home-based training. UniGym has been designed to address this challenge through interchangeable modules, accessories and digitally guided activities.

But what exactly is UniGym, how is it used and where could it fit into a rehabilitation programme?

What is the RobotGym UniGym?

UniGym is an electrically powered, multifunctional rehabilitation training system. Despite the word “robot” in the name, it is not a humanoid robot. It is a portable main unit that works with interchangeable modules and handles to support a variety of movements involving the hands, arms and legs.

The Full Edition combines a rotation module, cable-pulling module and glove module with a selection of handles, foot pedals and straps. Switching between these components allows the same main unit to be configured for more than 10 exercises across six forms.

The system offers four adjustable training modes. Speed, torque and resistance can be changed to suit the selected activity and the needs of the individual user. An accompanying app for iOS and Android provides training plans, interactive games and reports, helping to make sessions more structured and engaging.

Weighing approximately 6 kg and measuring 27 × 49 × 22 cm, UniGym is compact enough to be moved between suitable training locations. It can be configured for use on the floor, on a tabletop or with a suitable door setup, depending on the exercise and environment.

How is UniGym used?

The required module and accessory are attached to the main body before the training parameters are selected. The precise setup will depend on the joint or movement being addressed and should form part of an appropriate programme established by a suitably qualified professional.

Upper-limb rotational training

The rotation module can be fitted with two upper-limb rotation handles to create an arm-cycling movement. This configuration may be used to support repeated movement involving the shoulders, elbows and upper limbs.

The forearm rotation handle provides another configuration for movements involving the wrist and forearm. Rotational speed can be adjusted from 0 to 60 rpm, with torque adjustable up to 6 Nm.

Lower-limb rotational training

When the foot pedals are attached, the rotation module can support cycling-style lower-limb exercise. This creates a compact option for repeated movement involving the hips, knees and legs without requiring a conventional exercise cycle.

Cable-pulling exercises

The cable-pulling module can be used with the cable-pull handle or ankle strap. The cable extends up to 140 cm and provides adjustable resistance from 2 to 10 kg, allowing a variety of pulling movements for the upper or lower limbs.

Hand training

The glove module is designed to support hand-focused activities. Combined with the app and the wider selection of modules, it allows hand training to form part of the same system used for larger upper- and lower-limb movements.

Guided training through the UniGym app

The UniGym app complements the physical system with training plans, interactive games and reports. Parameters can be adjusted in real time, while recorded information can help users and professionals review activity over time.

Game-based activities may also help make repeated movements more engaging. This can be particularly valuable where a programme involves regular practice and repetition.

The app is intended to support a training programme, rather than replace professional assessment, clinical judgement or supervision where these are required.

Where can UniGym be used?

Its compact footprint and interchangeable configurations make UniGym relevant to a range of environments, including:

  • physiotherapy and rehabilitation clinics;
  • hospitals and outpatient services;
  • care homes and community rehabilitation settings;
  • supported home-based training programmes;
  • organisations with limited space for multiple single-purpose devices.

RobotGym has published case studies showing UniGym in different international settings. Alpro Pharmacy in Malaysia has used the system within a model connecting physiotherapy centres and home rehabilitation. In Poland, Rodion introduced UniGym for physiotherapy clinics, hospitals and care facilities where space and equipment fragmentation were important considerations. Fushoukang in China has applied it across nursing-home, community and home-care environments.

These examples illustrate the range of settings in which a compact, multifunctional system may be considered. Requirements, supervision and results will vary between organisations and individual users.

Designed with flexibility and stability in mind

UniGym incorporates an electric suction cup designed to secure the unit to an appropriate surface. RobotGym specifies a holding force of up to 20 kg laterally and 45 kg longitudinally. Correct installation and use in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions remain essential.

HaB Direct offers both battery-powered and plug-in versions of the Full Edition. The battery-powered model has a stated operating time of up to 12 hours, providing flexibility where regular access to a socket may be inconvenient.

What is included with the Full Edition?

Both configurations include:

  • 1 × main body;
  • 1 × rotation module;
  • 1 × cable-pulling module;
  • 1 × glove module;
  • 2 × upper-limb rotation handles;
  • 2 × foot pedals;
  • 1 × forearm rotation handle;
  • 1 × cable-pull handle;
  • 1 × ankle strap.

The plug-in configuration also includes one charging cable.

A multifunctional approach to rehabilitation training

The RobotGym UniGym Full Edition brings a broad selection of training configurations into one portable system. Its combination of interchangeable hardware, adjustable parameters and app-supported activities offers organisations a flexible way to support hand, upper-limb and lower-limb exercise while reducing reliance on numerous single-purpose devices.
