Queen Margaret University Chooses an h/p/cosmos pluto med for Research and Teaching

Queen Margaret University has added an h/p/cosmos pluto med treadmill to its laboratory, supplied and installed by HaB Direct on 22 July 2026.

The university needed a compact, reliable treadmill suitable for both research and teaching. Following discussions about the laboratory space and intended applications, HaB Direct helped the customer select the pluto med from several h/p/cosmos options.

Supporting Practical Learning and Research

Queen Margaret University combines research-informed teaching with practical learning across its health sciences courses. Its facilities include movement and research laboratories, providing spaces where students can develop practical skills alongside their academic studies.

For this installation, the customer had already identified h/p/cosmos as its preferred brand. The priority was to find a model that met the university’s requirements while fitting comfortably within the available laboratory space.

HaB Direct offered several treadmill variations for consideration. Based on the customer’s need for a smaller machine with the flexibility to support research and teaching, the pluto med emerged as the preferred choice.

Why the h/p/cosmos pluto med Was the Right Fit

The h/p/cosmos pluto med features a running surface measuring 150 × 50 cm, with a standard speed range of up to 22 km/h and motorised elevation adjustment from 0 to 25%. These adjustable settings allow users to vary walking and running conditions, making the treadmill a useful platform for practical demonstrations and research protocols involving changes in speed or gradient.

The model also includes an RS232 interface with the h/p/cosmos coscom protocol, providing a connection route for compatible external systems. This offers scope for integration where a laboratory’s chosen equipment and software support it.

For Queen Margaret University, selecting the pluto med balanced the space requirements of the laboratory with the need for a versatile treadmill that could serve more than one academic purpose.

Delivering to a Second-Floor Laboratory

Access was an important consideration for the installation. The treadmill needed to reach the second floor by lift before being moved along a corridor to its final position in the laboratory.

The HaB Direct team transported the treadmill via this route and installed it within the designated space. Jack Elliott, Pete Brown and Stuart Jackson were involved in the project.

The installation illustrates why equipment selection needs to account for both its intended use and the practicalities of getting it into position. In this case, the university’s laboratory requirements and access route were key considerations alongside the treadmill’s capabilities.

A Treadmill Selected Around the University’s Needs

With the pluto med installed, Queen Margaret University now has a treadmill selected to support its research and teaching requirements within the available laboratory space.
