Oxford Brookes University has expanded its sports laboratory facilities with a new h/p/cosmos pulsar 3p treadmill, supplied and installed by HaB Direct.
The installation continues a relationship dating back many years, when HaB Direct supplied the University with an h/p/cosmos mercury treadmill for its biomechanics laboratory. Six years later, the university returned to HaB Direct to add another high-performance running machine to its main sports laboratory.
Completed on 13 and 14 July 2026, the latest project required careful planning and teamwork due to the laboratory’s first-floor location and restricted lift access.
Building on an Existing h/p/cosmos Installation
Oxford Brookes University was already familiar with the performance and operation of h/p/cosmos equipment. In 2020, HaB Direct visited the university to install an h/p/cosmos mercury treadmill within its biomechanics laboratory.
As the university’s requirements developed, it wanted to expand its treadmill facilities with an additional system in its main sports laboratory. The new treadmill needed to accommodate a broad range of exercise testing, teaching and research activities.
The university’s existing experience with its mercury treadmill helped inform its decision to select another h/p/cosmos system.

Selecting the h/p/cosmos pulsar 3p
The h/p/cosmos pulsar 3p was selected to provide Oxford Brookes University with a treadmill suitable for high-intensity exercise testing and a wide range of teaching and research applications.
Its installation gives researchers and teaching staff greater flexibility when planning practical sessions, exercise assessments and research projects. It also provides students with valuable experience of using a high-performance treadmill within a laboratory environment.
By adding the pulsar 3p to its existing h/p/cosmos facilities, the university can build upon its previous experience with the equipment while expanding the types of testing and research that can be undertaken.
h/p/cosmos pulsar Treadmill Ergometer
The h/p/cosmos pulsar treadmill is a high-performance device used for cardiopulmonary exercise testing, speed training and general medical testing such as ECG stress tests.

Overcoming a Challenging First-Floor Installation
Installing the treadmill required careful logistical planning. The sports laboratory is situated on the first floor and could not be easily accessed using the building’s small lift.
Before the new equipment could be installed, an existing older treadmill was disassembled and removed from the laboratory.
The h/p/cosmos pulsar 3p was then disassembled by the HaB Direct team on the day before the installation. Its individual components were carefully carried up the stairs before the treadmill was rebuilt and positioned inside the laboratory.
The installation was completed by the HaB direct installation team. Their combined experience helped ensure that the treadmill was transported, rebuilt and installed safely despite the restricted access.

With the h/p/cosmos pulsar 3p now installed, Oxford Brookes University has expanded the capabilities of its main sports laboratory.

By adding to the university’s existing h/p/cosmos facilities, the installation also provides greater consistency across its treadmill equipment and builds upon the experience that staff already have with the brand.
