The POWERbreathe EX1 EMT device is recommended for people who wish to optimise their fitness and sports performance, breathing technique and recovery, because expiratory muscle fatigue, like inspiratory muscle fatigue, impairs performance.

Choose from 3 models of adjustable, variable resistance to suit each individual’s own level of breathing strength:

  • EX1-LR light, variable resistance with an adjustable load setting range of: 10 to 80 cmH2O
  • EX1-MR medium, variable resistance with an adjustable load setting range of: 35 to 175 cmH2O
  • EX1-HR heavy, variable resistance with an adjustable load setting range of: 55 to 220 cmH2O

The POWERbreathe EX1 Expiratory Muscle Training (EMT) breathing trainers from POWERbreathe use pressure threshold loading to challenge the expiratory muscles. The training is like weightlifting for your expiratory muscles.

The precisely calibrated resistance spring provides the breathing load. The higher the load is set (measured in cmH2O), the harder it is to exhale against the resistance and to open the valve to enable exhalation through the device. This challenge on your exhalation to open the valve enhances expiratory muscle structure and function and improves expiratory muscle strength and endurance.

POWERbreathe EX1 Training Protocol

The established training protocol for expiratory muscle training is 5 x 5 x 5:

  • 5 x exhales
  • 5 times a day
  • 5 days a week
